Competition among banks will not be for deposits, but for entrepreneurs
The main problem of the financial sector is not a liquidity deficit, but an outdated focus exclusively on large corporate business.
The Ukrainian banking sector is undergoing one of the most significant transformations in its history.
The system has become more resilient, transparent, and capitalized. The fact that Ukrainian banks demonstrate stability during a full-scale war is one of the greatest achievements of the past decade.
However, the market now faces new challenges. Challenges of development and growth.
Approximately 60 banks operate in Ukraine. For comparison: in Poland there are over 500 banking institutions, in Germany more than 1,200, and in Austria around 400.
But the number of banks does not determine the availability of financing for businesses. A much more important question is: how effectively does the financial system convert available liquidity into economic growth.
Today, an interesting situation has developed in Ukraine. On one hand, the banking system has a sufficient level of liquidity. On the other hand, a significant portion of micro, small, and medium-sized businesses continues to experience limited access to financing.
